OPT2CUT is a powerful contour optimization software that makes it easy to make all the necessary adjustments to previously recorded rim contours. For the first time, interpolation and smoothing is fully automated, significantly reducing the previous optimization effort. The program can also be perfectly adapted to the needs of the operator in all areas. The special feature of OPT2CUT is the consideration of daily problems from the practice of subsequent burnishing of rims.
Smoothing wheel contours
When capturing wheel contours, firstly, any unevenness in the clear coat is also captured and secondly, the surface is usually measured at a specific point distance. The result is a contour that cannot be used for wheel polishing without additional smoothing. The quality of the smoothing function was therefore the top priority in the development of OPT2CUT. For the first time, our software development team worked together with mathematicians from the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main to develop OPT2CUT. Continuous practical tests on our CNC machines enabled us to achieve the optimum in the area of contour smoothing during the two-year development period of the basic program. However, development is not standing still. We are working every day to make OPT2CUT even better and faster. In the latest version, for example, the duration of the smoothing calculation has been reduced by 90% compared to the previous program version.
Uneven overturning - why?
Damaged rims are usually only damaged at the rim flange, i.e. the edge area of the rim. So why should a rim that is only damaged at the edge be machined over the entire surface with one and the same cutting depth, which is actually only necessary to remove the damage to the rim flange? That makes little sense! We therefore developed the "uneven overturning" process around 10 years ago, which allows us to determine a greater cutting depth in the damaged area than on the rest of the rim - without this being visible after the CNC machining of rims. With the help of "uneven overturning", also known as "Z-correction", it is therefore possible to select any cutting depth at the rim edge and only remove the clear coat from the rest of the rim so that we can guarantee a uniform turning pattern. On the one hand, this enables minimal material removal and, on the other hand, significantly faster processing, as no complete program runs are initially required for CNC polishing. With OPT2CUT CNC turning programs, we work faster and more reliably at the same time!
Wheel center extension - rim flange extension
When over-turning damaged alloy rims, there are often problems when bright-turned areas are artificially enlarged by the material removed during the turning process. As a result, there is excess material in the area of the wheel center, for example, which is no longer taken into account by the original CNC program. This problem can also be exacerbated if rims do not have perfect axial run-out. The contour extension option prevents such problems from the outset. OPT2CUT offers contour extension not only for the wheel center area, but also for the rim flange area. In the case of rims that have not been turned around the rim flange, the rim flange that has not been turned can also be scanned. With just a few mouse clicks, the contour is extended outwards, ensuring that the rim - as in the original - is still only turned on the flat surface.
Manually insert, move and delete points
OPT2CUT is CNC software co-developed by people who have been working on CNC machines for years and know exactly what perfect software needs to do to make wheel turning as easy as possible while delivering the best possible results. The CNC machining of damaged, polished rims is an individual process, as there are many different types of damage, each of which requires an individual adjustment of the contour. We have therefore designed the CNC software in such a way that the user has a maximum of intervention options. Of course, this also includes setting additional touch points and moving or deleting touch points if this is necessary for perfect contour adjustment.
Individual adjustment of views, point sizes and line thicknesses
Every software user has different preferences when it comes to the display within the program. OPT2CUT can therefore be changed as required and thus adapted to the needs of each user. Even when moving the points, the value by which each point is to be moved can be determined.
Export function for finished turning programs
When exporting the optimized turning programs, all desired parameters can be selected within the software. This means that the CNC program no longer needs to be opened in order to determine the tool, speed, feed rate or wet machining, for example. The file name is automatically adjusted if, for example, a Z correction has been carried out.
Browser-based software enables use on all end devices
We deliberately decided against a desktop application because, on the one hand, this enables use on all Internet-enabled end devices and, on the other hand, the entire computing power takes place on our servers. This prevents device-dependent differences in performance.
