Paint stripper / cold paint stripper for rims - Master Stripper A Basis
Container size: 216 liter metal drum (270kg)
The paint stripper consists of two components: The base and the activator (optimizer).
The average stripping time for rims is 15 minutes! (Long-term test when using the cold paint stripper in the STRIP-MW610-B paint stripping tank for rims with a pump system while adhering to the recommended cleaning cycles)
The paint stripper calculator at https://mainhattan-wheels.de/portfolio/felgen-entlacken calculates the optimum ratio of activator to base.
The ideal proportion of activator is 22%.
1kg base corresponds to 0.8 liters. 1kg activator corresponds to 1 liter.
Note: We supply the base in 32kg and 270kg and the activator in 19kg containers.
You will receive a measuring system for determining the concentration free of charge with the first delivery of your paint stripper for rims.
This allows you to determine the specific weight yourself without the time-consuming process of taking samples and sending them to the manufacturer. The result of the concentration measurement determines the further procedure. The operating diagram shows the steps required to achieve the optimum concentration. This makes handling child's play. Adjustments can be made immediately if necessary!
FAQ - Questions before purchasing the paint stripper or the paint stripping tank from Mainhattan Wheels®
How often does the paint stripper for rims need to be replaced?
Our cold paint stripper does not need to be replaced if it is used properly over the years, it only needs to be regularly stripped and resharpened. How often the paint residue needs to be removed and/or resharpened depends on how many rims are stripped. As the base evaporates in open containers, it is essential that there is a cover on the paint stripping tank.
Can the paint stripping fluid be used in closed rooms?
Yes, the room just needs to have a suitable ventilation system. Suitable protective equipment must also be used.
Do I need to wear protective clothing when handling the wheel paint stripper?
Yes, protective equipment should be worn as a matter of urgency. We recommend a full-face mask with a respiratory protection filter system and appropriate protective clothing to prevent physical contact with the paint stripper. We will be happy to send you a list of the relevant products.
What mixing ratio of base to activator is recommended for the paint stripper for rims?
The optimum mixing ratio of the paint stripper is 78% base and 22% activator. To determine the respective quantities in liters, simply use our paint stripper calculator on this website. In the further course of use, you can also use the measuring system we provide to determine the current ratio. This always shows you the mixing ratio in the paint stripping tank, which can be corrected on the basis of our usage diagram.
How can I check whether my tank has the optimum efficiency?
The measuring system we provide should be used to determine the current mixing ratio. This always shows you the mixing ratio in the stripping tank. Our usage diagram can then be used for correction if necessary.
How long does it take for a rim to be stripped of paint?
The paint stripping time for rims depends primarily on the materials with which the rims were previously coated.
In the tanks we use to strip paint from rims (with a pump system), the stripping time for four rims is usually 10-20 minutes
How many rims can I strip with one filling in the tank offered?
As the paint stripper for rims is generally not replaced for many years, a large number of rims can be stripped.
The exact quantity depends, among other things, on the frequency of the paint stripping interval.
We have had the following experience with our MW610B paint stripping tanks with a capacity of 610 liters in continuous operation.
with 24 stripped rims (6 x 4 rims per tank per 8h shift)
approx. 1,000 stripped rims in 40 working days (2 months)
Only then was refinishing carried out (approx. 100 kg base + 25 kg activator).
What happens to the paint residue? Do they have to be disposed of as hazardous waste?
No, the paint residue is dried after stripping and can then be disposed of as residual waste. The slag can be dried using a slag garbage can with a sieve, for example.
How can I bring the paint stripper for rims back into an optimum working window if its efficiency decreases?
As a rule, the fill level has also decreased with decreasing efficiency. The first step should therefore be to achieve a filling level close to the optimum by topping up the base. The measuring system supplied can then be used to determine whether resharpening is required by adding activator or highly concentrated beads.
Adjustments can therefore be made at any time. It is not normally necessary to provide paint stripper samples.
Does the paint stripper attack the rims?
No, the paint stripper we use for rims is based on methylene chloride, contains alkaline activators and therefore does not attack aluminum. Only when stripping paint from magnesium rims or rims with a particularly high magnesium content should care be taken to ensure that the paint stripping times are kept short (e.g. not overnight, at weekends, etc.).
Can I also remove paint from other parts with the paint stripper for rims?
Yes, other metals apart from aluminum, e.g. steel and stainless steel, can also be stripped.
What temperature does the paint stripper need to work optimally?
The optimum effect is achieved from +12 °C. However, we have already carried out tests on rims at a temperature of -15°C. The paint stripping time was only slightly longer.
How is the paint stripper disposed of?
The paint stripper is not normally disposed of, as it can be used for many years if used correctly. However, if disposal is desired, a disposal company must be commissioned.
Do I need a special basin to use the paint stripper?
No, you do not need to use a special tank. Many of our customers switch from hot paint stripping to our cold paint stripping process and continue to use the previous hot paint stripping tank - only without circulation and heating. We generally recommend using a container approved for paint stripping, which also has a lockable lid to prevent the paint stripper from evaporating.
Can I also use the paint stripper to remove paint from magnesium rims?
Yes, rims with a high magnesium content can also be stripped. Just make sure that the paint stripping times are kept short (e.g. not overnight, at weekends, etc.). Otherwise, the material may be corroded in some cases.

Wheel paint stripping - paint stripping tank and cold paint stripper
Paint stripping is an essential step in the process of recoating rims. We have used all the well-known products in many years of paint stripping rims in our own company and none of them have convinced us. Either the paint stripping process takes far too long, is harmful to the environment or attacks the aluminum. In addition, all of the products tested over the years had to be replaced several times a year during intensive use. The frequent replacement, as well as the energy for heating and circulation, lead to excessively high costs.
However, we now have the perfect paint stripper for rims - a cold paint stripper - in use and sell it exclusively!
We have also developed the right paint stripping tanks for the optimum use of cold paint stripping for rims. During development, we have incorporated all of our experience in rim stripping and the resulting ideas. Starting with the ideal stainless steel material, through the automatic lifting system with integrated tank cover, to the efficient V-shape with integrated sludge channel for collecting the paint stripping slag, everything has been taken into account to enable cost-effective and efficient paint stripping operations.
In the latest expansion stage of our paint stripping tank, the MW610-B, we have also solved the problem of time-consuming cleaning. The paint stripper is automatically pumped through a cartridge filter with the aid of a compressed air diaphragm pump. The slag remains in the cartridge filter and the dried slag can then be removed from the stainless steel cartridges (micro stainless steel filters) in a few simple steps.
However, the advantage of the pump system is not only the automated cleaning. The efficiency of wheel paint stripping is significantly increased by the permanently high degree of cleaning of the paint stripping fluid!
